conditions were experienced. 78 MPH winds with gusts to 98 MPH were measured at Charleston Airport. Downtown Charleston recorded a
wind gust of 108 MPH while the Coast Guard Cutter "Rambler" in the Cooper River reported a 138 MPH gust. Caused 82 deaths.

Floyd was a large and intense Cape Verde storm that pounded parts of
the Bahamas and threatened the entire Southeast U.S. coast. Floyd neared
Cat 5 intensity in the Bahamas; however, it weakened thereafter and was
a Cat 2 as it made landfall near Cape Fear, NC. Produced a 53 MPH wind
gust at the Savannah Airport and an 85 MPH gust in downtown Charleston.
The minimum pressure at the Charleston Airport was 989.5 mb while
rainfall totaled 3.99 inches in downtown Charleston. |

north, paralleling the GA, SC and NC coasts, while intensifying and
accelerating northeast away from land. The Grays Reef buoy

fell along the Southeast U.S. coast, including over 4 inches in
downtown Charleston. |

0.25 inches as the center of circulation remained well offshore. |
